Year of Achievements

Doncaster, 2 October 2019: On 2 October 1989 Sentry Doors, the specialist fire door-set manufacturer, was established by Gordon and Carolyn Yates. Its 30th anniversary marks the high point in a year that has celebrated many achievements.

Initially a distributor of fire doors and fire door-sets, Sentry Doors moved into manufacturing in 1996, as a means of controlling the quality of its offering and to ensure that its customers’ requirements, which are almost always bespoke, are never compromised. Not content to be anything other than the best in the market, in 2011 the company made the decision to specialise further, developing premium ultra-high specification timber fire door sets and committed to be at the forefront of certification and compliance.

Earlier this year, the family run company took a bold strategic step, partnering with specialist investor, Cairngorm Capital to advance its growth strategy. The move coincided with Gordon’s decision to be less involved in the day to day running of the firm and saw the appointment of Ty Aziz, Gordon’s deputy, as managing director.

Gordon Yates, founder, explained “As founder, I am immensely proud of our team and fully support the growth plans we can now achieve with the additional strength and structure we have with Cairngorm Capital.”

Since February the company has implemented a programme of investment and expansion, investing in a new CNC machine, optimising its production line to perform and expanding its workforce, all with the goal of increasing capacity and shortening lead times so that Sentry Doors is able to be more responsive to clients. In parallel it has broadened its certified product range, expanding the options available to customers.

In December 2018, Sentry Doors successfully passed the MHCLG government fire testing1 of FD30S timber fire door-sets to both sides. In July 2019, Sentry Doors again successfully passed the BM Trada Q-Mark2 double-sided furnace test of its flush and glazed FD30S pre-hung assembled front entrance door-sets, including fanlights, reassuring the market of its products’ durability and its ability to innovate without compromising quality, certification or compliance.

Ty Aziz, Sentry Doors’ Managing Director explained, “Compliance and certification are the cornerstone of our philosophy. As a bespoke timber fire door-set manufacturer of FD30S and FD60S, we take our business very seriously and are already looking at development testing, which will further enhance the front entrance, communal timber door-set and screens that we offer local authorities and housing associations.”

Gordon concluded, “Quality, agility and compliance have been a winning formula for us over the last 30 years so we will continue to do what we do best, as we fulfil our ambitions for growth. We treasure our values and we won’t compromise our quality or our standards.”
