Sentry Doors are proud to support the 10th anniversary of Fire Door Safety Week

20th September 2023, Doncaster, UK: Sentry Doors are proud to support Fire Door Safety Week for a fourth year running. As regular supporters of the campaign, we are pleased to promote the campaign and celebrate the 10-year anniversary of #FireDoorSafetyWeek.

Fire Door Safety Week is a ‘mass market’ awareness campaign that takes place every year to increase public understanding of the vital role fire doors play in protecting people’s lives and property in the event of a fire.

Managed by the British Woodworking Federation, Fire Door Safety Week was launched in 2013 in response to a legacy of fire door neglect. The campaign is aimed at ensuring everyone, from manufacturers to inspectors, understands the critical role of fire doors and how they are responsible for ensuring fire doors remain safe and compliant.

This year, there have been some impactful regulation changes in the fire safety industry, introduced to strengthen the standards of fire door safety and overall fire safety. On the 23rd January, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 came into force, which amended the Fire Safety Order 2005 (Regulatory Reform Order), making it a requirement for the Responsible Person of residential buildings over 11 metres in height to undertake annual checks on flat entrance doorsets and quarterly checks on communal doorsets.

On the 1st October, Section 156 of the Building Safety Act 2022 is set to come into force, which will further strengthen fire safety in all FSO regulated premises by increasing the requirements for information creation and recording and making it easier for enforcement authorities to take action against non-compliance. The implementation of these new regulations is set to bring heightened responsibilities for individuals working in the fire door industry, whilst holding people more accountable for fire door neglect to improve overall standards.

We are showing our support for the 10-year anniversary of Fire Door Safety Week by sharing a range of resources to help spread awareness of the importance of fire door safety within the industry.

Catherine Clarkson, Head of Marketing & Strategy, said ‘As a business we are committed to being at the forefront of fire safety. Getting involved in Fire Door Safety Week is important to us as this is a campaign at the heart of driving awareness in fire door safety, the importance of compliance, and ensuring an understanding of regulation. We show our support each year by sharing a host of resources, and this year we are excited to be announcing the launch of our CPD Open Day exploring fire door compliance’.
