FD60 Fire Door FAQs

  • What Are the Rules for FD60 Fire Door Frames?

FD60 fire door frames must meet minimum density standards. For hardwood, this is 640kg/m3, while MDF requires a minimum density of 700kg/m3. The frames must measure 70x32mm at a minimum. 60 minute fire doors must also feature a 12mm rebate or planted stop. The frames must have no gaps, and double doors may be scalloped or square.

  • Should I Choose An FD30 or FD60?

Whether you need an FD30 or FD60 fire door will depend on your needs. As a general rule of thumb, FD30s tend to be installed in buildings where quick evacuations are possible, such as in smaller office blocks or residential buildings, while FD60 door sets are required by larger buildings such as tall blocks of flats or office blocks. Contact usfor more advice.

  • Where should FD 60 door sets be installed?

FD 60 door sets are ideal for areas that require a higher level of fire protection, such as stairwells, corridors, plant rooms, service risers, and designated fire escape routes. They are particularly suited to skyscrapers, large commercial premises, and buildings which contain a large population where in the event of a fire additional time for evacuation is required.

  • Are FD60 fire doors certified for safety?

Yes, all of our FD60 fire doors and FD60 door sets are rigorously tested and certified to meet British Standards for 60 minute fire-rated doors. This guarantees that they offer reliable fire and smoke resistance in the event of a fire taking place. Our Knowles product range has been fully accredited under the IFC Certification and BM TRADA’s Q-Mark Fire Scheme.
