Full Compliance

Sentry Doors offers fully compliant apartment fire doors, with our team working to ensure the fire safety performance of our products. We hold a wide range of certifications, with a BM TRADA Q-Mark for both fire door manufacturing and enhanced security on all doorsets. Our doors are also independently fire-tested within a UKAS approved test house. This means that they will more than meet all safety regulations in a new or existing building. Each of our apartment doors is made to measure and built to the specifications of your project. They come fully furnished, with a doorframe, hinges and ironmongery, all of which are fire-resistant. Each door is painted and fitted with glazing before delivery, ready for quick installation. We believe in the quality and performance of our flat and apartment fire doors, offering a range of warranties on coatings, glazing, and door manufacture alongside full legal compliance.

Designed For Security

Safety is a priority for all homeowners, and our apartment fire doors are also designed to resist entry. Both our FD30 and FD60 range of flat entrance doorsets come with a Secured by Design certification. This shows that they pass the many criteria of PAS24, designed to showcase the security standards of doors. PAS24 covers many specific door-open methods, including impact testing and pressure simulation. Our security doors also come with Secured by Design approved handles, featuring a multipoint locking system. Our letterplates are also optimised for security, protecting against common fishing techniques. This helps to ensure meet all fire safety regulations, whilst also being intrusion resistant.

FAQs

  • What doors need to be fire doors in an apartment?

To comply with fire safety regulations, certain doors within a flat must be fitted with fire-rated doors to help prevent the spread of fire and smoke. These places typically include:

Flat Entrance Door – The main entrance door, particularly where it opens onto a corridor or stairwell, is typically required to be a fire door. This is vital for protecting escape routes used by other residents.

Internal Escape Route Doors – Any door within the flat that forms part of the escape route (such as hallways) may need to be fire-rated, depending on the layout and building design.

High-Risk Rooms – In some cases, doors to rooms that pose a higher fire risk, such as kitchens or utility rooms, may also be required to be fire doors, especially in larger complexes.

Requirements can vary depending on the building’s design, age, and applicable regulations, so it’s important to ensure compliance with current building and fire safety standards.

  • Who is responsible for fire doors in apartments?

The responsibility for fire doors in your property falls on the Responsible Person, which is usually the landlord, freeholder or property owner. They must ensure that all apartment fire doors are correctly installed, regularly inspected, and properly maintained. They must also comply with regulations, including being fit for purpose in preventing the spread of fire and smoke.

  • Do apartment doors require particular frames?

Yes, fire-rated frames must be installed alongside flat entrance fire doors to ensure they provide the intended level of protection. The door and its frame work together as a complete system, so both components must meet the required fire-resistance rating. Using a non-compliant frame can compromise performance, reducing its ability to contain fire effectively.

  • How often should apartment fire doors be inspected?

Fire doors should be inspected regularly to ensure they remain safe and compliant. In most residential buildings, checks are typically carried out every six months. These checks should confirm the door closes properly, and that seals, hinges, and other components are in good condition. Any issues should be addressed promptly to maintain effective fire protection.
