Fire Doorset Replacement Project for G15 Housing Association
Who are Sovereign Network Group?
SNG (Sovereign Network Group) was formed in October 2023 through the merger of Sovereign and Network Homes. They are a charitable housing association who provide over 84,000 homes and invest in communities across the South of England. Everything the housing association earns, is reinvested so their customers have a sustainable home in a thriving community.
SNG is part of the G15, a group of London’s largest housing associations. Its members house one in ten people living in London and as a collective, they are the largest housing provider of affordable homes in the capital of England. The G15 was formed to help people in need of housing and to solve London’s housing crisis.
The Project
In 2021, SNG carried out a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) on a series of its street properties in London to assess the level of fire risk. During the assessment, they found that a large number of doors had defects and needed to be replaced.
SNG appointed two main contractors to carry out the remedial works; two highly recognised contractors within the South of England with fire safety divisions that made them excellent choices for the project.
Sentry Doors were selected as the approved fire door manufacturer for the project, after adhering to a range of criteria set out by the Housing Association with support from the contractors. Sentry’s portfolio of certification for their FD30S doorsets was a key selling point and one of the main reasons they were selected as the supplier for the project. Once Sentry were selected and the contract was agreed, surveying for the project took place in September 2021, with contractors on site ready to begin work by December 2021.
The remedial works scheme consisted of the replacement of 1,000 FD30S Flat Entrance doorsets, in the style FED20, to the fronts of the converted street properties. Since then, the replacement scheme has resulted in improvements being made to these properties with the added benefit of improved fire safety throughout, ensuring tenants are safe and that the fire doors adhere to the requirements needed to make them compliant.
Danny Patel, Planned Works Contracts Manager, SNG explains ‘we chose Sentry Doors to supply FD30S Flat Entrance doorsets for our FRA project as they hold the relevant primary test evidence, the level of service they provide is satisfactory, and our customer-account manager relationship ensures that if we have a problem, there is someone on hand to resolve it for us’.
It was a pleasure to be able to work closely with both the Contractor and the Housing Association on this project, understanding and supporting their needs throughout the course of the works. We work closely with our partners to improve the safety of resident’s homes whilst ensuring that we meet exacting project timeframes. If you’re considering fire doorsets for your next project, look no further than our range of fully certified Flat Entrance doorsets.
